Ink

Ink became my friend, my constant companion, and my pleasure.

I became acquainted with ink when I dropped preconceived notions of what ink and artists do. I had always thought, as a left-handed writer, that dipping into ink would have disastrous consequences for me. My hand would drag across the paper. The ink would get all over my hands then on the paper in an uncontrolled mess. It was when I realized that I did not have to work from left to right across the paper, as one does with most written languages. Of course not! I frequently use both hands in my painting and drawing process. I move from right to left, edge to center, corner to corner, back to front, whatever it takes. Thus, the tyranny of marking direction was lifted in my mind. I could now wander in any direction and with both hands. Ink became my friend, my constant companion, and my pleasure. My new love. The delight of its dance from bottle to paper is fascinating.

Reflections/Perspectives

Now.

Here.

Life as reflected by art.

In vivid color and shades of grayish blue.

Reflections of life from the artist’s perspective.

How does connectedness effect a creative call to action? Is it willingness or sheer willfulness to be the honest artist? When the connection between art and music is damaged or destroyed, then this artist picks up her ever-expanding creative toolkit and gets to work. In this exhibition the “fixer” explores what it means to play music, to paint, draw, respond and change from the inside out. The invisible image, the unheard sound, the vulnerability of connectedness, a responsibility to be honest and emerge compassionate reverberate throughout every stroke, drag, stab and rhythmic caress of the brush to the canvas.

What could be a sweeter way to spend an evening with friends, than enjoying the liveliness and intimacy of a cultural drinking spot in the heart of a historic market in Vienna? Add to this the possibility of falling in love with a painting and taking it home! This event is part of a journey into the emotional links between art and music. There are eight pairs of paintings each corresponding to a perceived musical note (in Latin “color”) and its reflection or echo. A singularity can change a multitude. The music performance links the artworks to each other and the audience. How does this happen? Ahh, you had to be there.

Art of the Human Form

A beautiful body. Sensual delight. Visual pleasure. Love and humanity. The art of the Human Form.

My fascination with the human form has led me into the world of live sketch clubs, urban sketching, discreet thumbnail drawings in parks and shorthand doodles on busses. The journey continues through dance clubs, salsa bars, ballet, yoga, contact improvisation, contemporary movement, theatre, Butoh, and beyond. It is exciting to realise a multifaceted visual interpretation of the body both as a dynamic form and a classic nude. My works are produced with charcoal, pencil, ink, watercolor, acrylic, and oils on paper and canvas ranging from bitesize to mural dimensions.

You are most welcome to visit Atelier EK. Let’s set up a meeting and do this together.
